Matrix Coming to Imax

By Beth Hannan Rimmels

The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions are on their way to Imax. The large-screen theater operator announced yesterday that Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow's upcoming Matrix films, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, will be released on Imax's 15 frames-per-second/70mm screen format in addition to the standard theatrical releases debuting this year.  Imax's new Digital Remastering (DMR) technology allows 35mm films to be transferred to the larger format without compromising quality. The Imax version of Andy and Larry Wachowski's The Matrix Reloaded will open two to three weeks after the film's May 15 wide-screen release, with June 6 being the most widely discussed Imax release date. The Matrix Revolutions will debut on Imax on November 5, the same day as it's theatrical release, which will make it the first Hollywood event film to debut in both 35mm and Imax format at the same time.
