Ten Favorites Films from 2000 By Beth Hannan Rimmels A disclaimer: I generally don't believe in "best" or "top 10" lists, but one of the publications I write for requested that I put together a list of my top 10 films for the year. I'm not claiming that the following are categorically the best movies, but they were my favorites. 1. Hamlet This version proves once again that Shakespeare is always relevant, and Bill Murray does an incredible job as Polonius. 2. Erin Brockovich Smart, sassy, funny, touching and true. 3. Chicken Run A practically perfect animated film for parents and kids. 4. This Is Spinal Tap So it’s a re-release? It’s still brilliant and hysterically funny. 5. Return to Me Sweet without being saccharine, this romantic comedy provided good roles for both its young and old cast members. 6. Unbreakable A thought-provoking and worthy successor to The Sixth Sense. 7. Meet the Parents Truly funny account of every person’s relationship nightmare. 8. X-Men A whizz-bang action/special effects film that didn’t ignore the soul and emotional weight underlying the whole story. 9. Gladiator Spartacus for the new millennium. 10. Keeping the Faith An old-fashioned romantic comedy that makes some great points about love, faith and tradition vs. change. Honorable Mention: The Whole Nine Yards Starts off slow but makes great use of a talented cast, especially Amanda Peet.
