DC Celebrated at GLAAD
Media Awards
The
Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has
announced the nominees for its 12th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, and DC
Comics' Wildstorm imprint has taken four out of five nominations (America's
Best Comics is a subimprint of Wildstorm). Regardless of which nominee wins, DC
still comes out ahead because the only non-DC nomination is Pedro and Me,
about Judd Winick's friendship with fellow Real World cast member Pedro Zamora,
who was both gay and HIV positive. Winick is currently the writer/artist for
DC's Green Lantern. Before and since Zamora's death, Winick has toured
the country speaking about AIDS.
The awards will be given over the course of four ceremonies
that will be held in New York City on April 16, in Los Angeles on April 28, in Washington, D.C., on
May 12, and in San Francisco on June 9. The comic book nominees are:
The
Authority (Wildstorm/DC Comics)
Jenny Sparks: The Secret History of the Authority (Wildstorm/DC Comics)
Pedro & Me (Henry Holt)
Promethea (America's Best Comics/Wildstorm)
Top Ten (America's Best Comics/Wildstorm)
