No Fairy Tale: Miramax Gets Artemis He's no J.K. Rowling yet, but Irish schoolteacher-turned-author Eoin Colfer isn't complaining. Despite having published a handful of children's books, Colfer is barely known outside his native land, but that's about to change. His latest book, Artemis Fowl will not only be his first published outside Ireland, but it has tied up a film deal with Miramax and Tribeca Films months before its print release. Artemis Fowl has been described as Die Hard with fairies. The title character in the fast paced, action saga is a quick witted 12-year-old nerd with bad manners, bad temper, cell phone, laptop and skill with computer code. Artemis visits real-world locations like Ireland, Vietnam and Italy and mystic realms, accompanied by a martial artist/bodyguard, to recover Artemis' family's lost fortune. |
